My name is Justin Johnson. I have had a love of food since I was eight years old. Growing up I learned to cook from watching and learning from my mother, grandmother, great grandmother and family friends from all over the globe. I make food that is simple yet flavorful, I love to take basic items, experiment and expand on those flavors to transform it into something else.

 

As a teenager I had the opportunity to live in Oklahoma and that is where I developed a taste for BBQ and southern style cooking. During a family trip back east, I visited several restaurants in the Midwest, central and southern states including New Orleans, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Kansas and St. Louis. All the while I paid attention to how the food tasted and was prepared, keeping those notes in my head so that I could create those mouth watering flavors in the future.  

 

Several years ago I was reading ingredients on spices and did not like what I saw was in them, so I started to develop rubs and seasonings on my own that were made from basic ingredients and contained no dyes, chemicals or artificial items all the while making sure that they had flavor and paired well with different cuts of meat. 

 

Now I am taking on a new challenge and venturing out into catering where I can share my love of the south with dishes that are both comforting and tasteful.
